Best Photoshoot Locations in Lisbon: 5 Beautiful Places for Your Photos

1. Alfama & Miradouro de Santa Luzia

If you want that classic Lisbon feeling, Alfama is probably the first place I would recommend.

The narrow cobblestone streets, colorful tiled buildings, old balconies and small staircases make this historic neighborhood one of the most photogenic areas in Lisbon.

One of my favorite spots here is Miradouro de Santa Luzia, known for its beautiful azulejo panels, flower-covered pergola and views over Alfama and the Tagus River.

What I love about this area is that you don’t need to stay in one exact spot. We can start at the viewpoint, walk through the surrounding streets and find different backgrounds along the way.

Best for: couples, solo travelers, engagement sessions and proposals
Atmosphere: romantic, authentic and very Lisbon
Best time: morning or late afternoon

If you are looking for an Alfama photoshoot in Lisbon, this is one of the areas I would start with.

2. Praça do Comércio

For something more spacious and architectural, head to Praça do Comércio.

The huge yellow square opens directly onto the Tagus River and has beautiful symmetrical architecture, arcades and plenty of space for different types of photos.

It works particularly well if you like clean compositions and a more elegant or editorial feeling. It is also easy to combine with a walk through Baixa and Rua Augusta, so one photoshoot can include several very different Lisbon backgrounds.

Atmosphere: elegant, bright and spacious
Best time: early morning or late afternoon

For a Lisbon photoshoot, Praça do Comércio is one of those locations that immediately tells you where you are.

3. Tram 28 & the Streets of Old Lisbon

The iconic yellow Tram 28 is one of the most recognizable symbols of Lisbon — and, of course, it makes a pretty great photo too.

But you don’t necessarily need to get on the tram for a photoshoot.

Some of the most interesting photographs can be taken along its route, where the yellow tram moves through narrow historic streets, passing traditional buildings and viewpoints around Alfama and the city center.

I especially like using the tram as a little detail during a walking photoshoot rather than making the entire session about it. We can walk, talk, explore the streets and simply wait for the right moment when the tram passes.

Best time: morning or late afternoon

The best part? You get much more than just a photo with a yellow tram — you get the whole atmosphere of old Lisbon around it.

4. Belém

If you want to combine architecture, the river and plenty of open space, Belém is a great option.

This part of Lisbon feels completely different from Alfama. Instead of narrow streets and steep hills, you get wide spaces, the waterfront and some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

Belém works particularly well for longer photoshoots because there are several different backgrounds within the same area. You can move between the riverfront, historic architecture and more open spaces without spending the whole session in one place.

Atmosphere: spacious, bright and relaxed
Best time: morning or golden hour

If you have more time and want to see several sides of Lisbon during your session, Belém is definitely worth considering.

5. 25 de Abril Bridge

If you want something a little different from the traditional Lisbon streets, the 25 de Abril Bridge can add a more cinematic and urban feeling to your photos.

The red suspension bridge stretches across the Tagus River and creates a striking backdrop, especially from the waterfront areas where you can frame the bridge behind you.

It works particularly well for couples and lifestyle photoshoots when you want something more relaxed and modern rather than purely historic Lisbon.

Atmosphere: cinematic, urban and relaxed
Best time: late afternoon and sunset

I especially like using the bridge as part of a wider waterfront route rather than making it the only location. This way, you can get a variety of images during one photoshoot in Lisbon — from close-up portraits to wider shots with the river and the bridge in the background.
